Minivans-to-Matatus, Kenya // January 10th-20th, 2018

This all-women’s trip is one of our best trips offered.  It gives women an opportunity to bond together while getting out of their traditional roles back home.  

A ‘matatu’ is a Kenyan minivan that has been converted into public transportation, seating up to 20 people.  Our Minivans-to-Matatu trip will get you out of your ‘minivan’ back home and into the Kenyan culture.   We promise to give  you a beautiful Safari experience to remember forever.  Children are welcome and encouraged to join their mother on this trip

Your Minivans-to-Matatus Safari experience will occur from January 10-20, 2018, and the total cost per person is US $3,100* (international flight not included).   We need a MINIMUM OF 6 PARTICIPANTS (maximum of 12) for this trip to be finalized, so spread the word so that everyone who is interested has the opportunity to participate.

January 9thFly from USA to Europe.

January 10th: Transfer planes in Europe and fly to Nairobi, Kenya. Upon arrival, your drivers will transfer you to the urban Town Lodge.

 January 11thEnjoy a visit to the David Sheldrik elephant orphanage and Kazuri Bead Cooperative, Giraffe Park, shopping Karen, option to tour Karen Blixon Coffee Garden. Dinner pool side back at the Hotel.  

 January 12th: Morning learning about the inner city complex issues of poverty in the slums with Trish Hyodo. In the afternoon, enjoy a tour of Amani Ya Juu, a women’s peace and reconciliation income generating project. Time to shop, eat lunch in the garden.

January 13th: After breakfast, drive through the Great Rift Valley and on to the edge of the world famous Maasai Mara National Reserve. Hike up Mt Longonot, to enjoy breathtaking view of the Great Rift Valley. Drive back to stay at Carnelly’s camp on the shores of Lake Naivasha for the night.

January 14th: tbd

January 15th: Enjoy breakfast on the shores of Lake Naivasha overlooking hippos and a wide variety of bird life. Then head out west to Massai land. Arrive at Renoi Ronkei’s home compound. Dinner with her family.

January 16th: Spend the day learning about the work with educating the Massai girls, with visits to schools and meals with the children, enjoy more time with the Ronkei family and an evening with traditional dancing.

January 17th: After having a restful morning begin our farewells, head out to the game reserve where we will experience the majestic wildlife that Africa has to offer

January 18th: A day to rest, enjoy the wildlife, practice yoga and be thankful!

January 19th: Drive (or fly, depending on cost) back Nairobi, connecting flight out that night home!

January 20th: Arrive home after having an experience of a lifetime!!!!

 

Included in the trip…

Your all-inclusive price (US$ ) includes the following: local travel, all accommodations (double occupancy), most meals, local fees, bottled drinking water, radio communication during the trip (and cell phone access), exclusive use of a 4x4 vehicle with guaranteed window seat, group guides.

The following are not included: international airfare, insurance, passports, inoculations, individual expenses (including gifts, laundry, email, soft drinks, etc), and any expenses during optional excursions.

We will spend two nights in the world famous Maasai Mara National Reserve at the Angama Mara Safari Lodge.
